PRAYER AND PRAISE UPDATE

September 2008

LET THE EARTH HEAR HIS VOICE

“Proclaim the Good News of His Salvation from day to day.  Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.”  Psalm 96:2-3

By God’s grace, my 9-year old son, Calvin, and I, have safely returned from a 4,000 kilometre mission trip around South Africa by road.  In just under three weeks we ministered in 4 provinces, speaking at 9 different schools, 5 churches, 2 mission stations, on 2 radio stations, at a teacher training college, a university, 2 conferences and 3 Christian Action groups.  All in all, I conducted over 50 meetings.  Calvin assisted with training in Evangelism Explosion and The Way of the Master.  Sometimes Calvin took Sunday schools and primary school classes alone, while I was busy with services, radio interviews, or other school lectures.

KwaSizabantu Mission

It was a privilege to be a plenary speaker at the Christians for Truth Conference at KwaSizabantu Mission.  I was invited to speak on The Battle for the Mind in the News Media.  Despite the recent devastating fire, which destroyed the auditorium at KwaSizabantu, the CFT conference went well, with almost 2,000 people crammed in and around the school hall.  Delegates to the CFT conference came from as far afield as Canada, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, Romania and Switzerland.   Invitations also came to lecture at the Cedar College of Education on The Reformation and Science, and at the Domino Servite School on The French Revolution, World War II and on our Reformation Heritage.

Jivannadi Mission

On the way up to the CFT conference Calvin and I ministered at Christian schools in Laingsburg and Bloemfontein, and at a Christian Action group in Trompsberg.  After ministering at KwaSizabantu, we  drove to Jivannadi Mission.  Jivannadi is a mission to Hindus, with a dynamic counselling and deliverance ministry.  Many of the mission staff are also involved in the Good News Community Radio, which for over 12 years has broadcast the Gospel and discipleship programmes to the greater Durban area.  I recorded 8 sermons for GNCR and had 5 interviews, including 2 live radio phone-in programmes. While Calvin was training the juniors in Way of the Master and Evangelism Explosion, I was taking the seniors through an overview of church history.  We also taught the whole school the Seven C’s from Ken Ham’s Answers in Genesis.

University of Natal

I was also invited to minister at the dynamic His People Bible School at the University of Natal in Durban on The Battle for the Mind.

Missions Conference

We then travelled through to the Norwegian Settlers Church in Port Shepstone to conduct a Missions Conference.  Under the theme “Let the Earth Hear His Voice”, the Norwegian Settlers Church organised a dynamic programme for the Missions Weekend, including a Missions Banquet on the Friday evening.  On Friday night I presented some highlights from The Greatest Century of Missions and on Sunday expounded Isaiah 18 applying it to the Revival amidst persecution in Sudan, and Psalm 72 showing the tremendous evangelistic opportunities amidst the conflict between Islam and Christianity in Africa.

Schools and Churches

After Port Shepstone we were hosted by the First Baptist Church in Kokstad, ministering to their school on Animals in the Bible and on South African History.  There was a tremendous turnout for the church’s Monday night Missions Rally.  We were also able to visit and minister at the nearby St. Patrick’s College.

Then after further meetings with the school in Kokstad, we drove through Transkei to East London for a Christian Action meeting on Being Relevant and Compassionate in a Broken World.  Early the next morning Calvin and I were ministering at the Advance for Life Christian Academy with an assembly of this 200-strong school.  Calvin trained the students in Way of the Master and Evangelism Explosion.  I presented The Bible and Animals PowerPoint.  After this we drove 200 kilometres to the Alexandria Christian Academy.  After Calvin’s presentation of EE, I dealt with God’s Law vs Paganism.  Then it was off to Plettenberg Bay where I dealt with The Way of the Master and The Bible and Animals to Plettenberg Bay Christian School.  The final meeting of this three-week ministry trip was at a Christian Action rally at Mossel Bay World Outreach Centre.  The subject was The World War of Worldviews.

Literature Ministry

Throughout this countrywide ministry trip we distributed many thousands of World Missionary Press Gospel booklets in Xhosa, Zulu, English and Afrikaans.  We also donated hundreds of books, CDs and DVDs to school, college and mission libraries.  This included donating copies of David Noebel’s The Battle for Truth books to ministries at Rhodes University, Grahamstown and the University of Natal in Durban; Mark Cahill’s books One Thing You Can’t Do in Heaven and One Heartbeat Away to missions, schools and colleges; and a whole range of Frontline Fellowship titles, CD Box Sets, DVDs, MP3 and other audio-visual resources, along with many boxes of Christian Action magazines, evangelistic tracts and other useful materials.

Historical Research

Between the meetings and ministry, we managed to visit numerous museums and battle sites, both as part of Calvin’s home schooling, and for research for my Reformation Society PowerPoint presentations.  We have come back with many hundreds of photographs and a trunk of books and other research materials from the Anglo Boer War Museum and Fort in Bloemfontein, the Dundee museum and Talana battlefield, Rorkes Drift, Isandlawana, Blood River and Ecombe museum, Ulundi, Dingaanstad and Mgungunlovu.

Wonderful Wildlife

We also had the joy of seeing giraffe, zebra, impala, blesbok, warthogs, springbok, ostriches, kestrels, fish eagles, black eagles, a martial eagle and numerous whales as we crossed the country.

Lectures and Sermons on CDs and MP3s

Should you be interested in the audio CDs, or PowerPoints, of any of the presentations on this ministry tour, please contact Christian Liberty Books (admin@christianlibertybooks.co.za).

Congo Mission

We praise God for the successful mission trip of John to the Congo.  He managed to deliver vital materials to our friends there, gathered valuable research, and was able to minister to the believers, encouraging and guiding them in their vital work.

Thank You

We praise God for His protection and provision over so many miles of driving across the country.  We are very grateful for your partnership and prayer support.  It is a privilege to be represent you as we invest in Literature distribution, Leadership Training and Love in Action in some of the most desperately needy and neglected parts of Africa.

Yours for the fulfilment of the Great Commission
