thank you for Praying for Christopher Hammond - 14 Dec 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Dear Friend

Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Thank you very much for your prayers and for your encouragement. Since the kidney transplant on Wednesday, 2 December, and the emergency surgery late Friday, 4 December, to remove a blockage, Christopher contracted pneumonia, while in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He also had a partially collapsed lung, which with much pain, managed to be re-inflated through a special oxygen mask that covered only his nose, but provided sufficient pressure to re-inflate the lung.

By Sunday, 6 December, Christopher experienced his worst pain ever. By God’s grace, and in answer to much prayer, he is no longer experiencing acute pain. He has recovered from the pneumonia and his lung has re-inflated sufficiently enough to warrant the removal of the oxygen mask.

He has now been taken off morphine and is on a very mild anti-pain medication, Panado. On Thursday, 10 December, he had a kidney biopsy. The results were positive, indicating that his new kidney has been accepted by his body, and is a good match. They have been able to lower the anti-rejection medication.

However, his kidney is still in some state of shock from the two surgeries and has yet to begin cleansing the system from the build-up of toxins. The createnine levels are still unacceptably high.

However, almost all the needles, drips and tubes have been taken out and Christopher has been released from ICU and is now in a general ward, although in isolation. His last meal was on Tuesday, 1 December. He has no real appetite yet. He has been drinking a little. Today he will be allowed to take his first shower.

Although Lenora has been home since Monday 7 December, she continues to be in much pain.

My sister, Vanessa, has been invaluable in being with Christopher in the hospital through much of this, and helping me juggle Daniela and Calvin’s extra-mural and home schooling activities.

We are very much looking forward to Andrea returning home for Christmas.

Thank you for your ongoing prayers and support.

May the Lord continue to be your joy and strength.

Yours in Christ’s service.
