|Mission Report - September 2010|
Greetings in the wonderful Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
“ I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. ” 2 Timothy 4:1-2
Women’s Day Outreach
Berdine and I organized a successful Women’s Day outreach on 9 August. We had the opportunity to distribute tracts and leaflets concerning eternal life, the worth of women, the horrors of abortion, the possible legalization of prostitution and the destruction of pornography. Berdine translated the Women’s Day leaflet into Afrikaans of which large quantities were distributed. Last year it was only our family who participated in the outreach so we are excited that 9 volunteers from our church and a local pastor joined us this year. Many people in a shopping mall near a taxi rank received tracts and information leaflets. Many children and babies were delighted to receive balloons printed with Scripture verses and pro-life messages. We had a display and literature table with messages on pro-life, and Biblical morality. A muslim family gave their support for our Women’s Day effort and took a few of our tracts – including the ‘Where will you spend eternity?” tract. We are thankful for this opportunity to share the gospel with so many people in our town. To view more pictures and read more about the outreach visit www.familyfriendlyfrews.blogspot.com
BWS and Great Commission Course
My whole family had the wonderful opportunity of attending the Biblical Worldview Seminar in Pelindaba at the KwaSizabantu Mission Station as well as a Great Commission Seminar at the Back to the Bible Training College near Barberton, where I gave feedback on the recent mission outreaches to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. In accordance with our aim to ‘stretch mind and muscles’, we included a physical training session. As always, this session separated the earnest from the weak and lazy.
Back to the Bible Training College is situated in the scenic “Valley of mercy” and has 120 students from 16 different African countries. The students and staff pray daily for 276 missionaries from all over the world. It was a very rewarding time for our family, as we met likeminded people and were encouraged and strengthened in our faith.
I was invited to speak to the management and employees of a business in Evander, Mpumalanga. This business has a devotional time every morning and I challenged them to examine their lives to make sure they are on the narrow road (Matthew 7:13&14). While we were in Evander, I also addressed a men’s group on the importance of having a Biblical worldview. The men may want to arrange a Biblical Worldview Seminar in the future.
“…that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting…” Ephesians 4:14
Berdine and I were invited as guests on a three hour phone-in show on our local radio station. I had the opportunity to talk about “The Greatest Man who ever lived”, answered questions and prayed for many prayer requests, Berdine was asked to give advice to young people - she wisely admonished them to submit to, respect and obey their parents, and reminded them that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. During the past week I preached every day during an early morning program, I spoke on “Humility”, “The Flood”, “How to be saved and know it”, “Repentance” and “Revival”. The announcer, Joe, arranged an opportunity for me to minister at two secondary schools where I challenged the students to make sure they were on “the narrow road”. On Sunday evening I preached on “The Heart of the Gospel”.
Ministry at Potgietersrus Fruit and Veg City
The owner of our local Fruit and Veg City asked me to lead a weekly service for his employees. The staff at this business are very responsive, but most of them work only for a short term. Over the past few months I used principles from the Way of the Master and I believe that this small congregation do understand that because of their sinful nature they need a savior.
Widows and Orphans
At home God has been bringing a needy Christian family and two poor widows, one with 6 young children, to our attention and we are trusting God to be able to assist them practically and spiritually. This is very exciting for Michelle who loves showing God’s compassion and kindness to those in need.
“ They desired only that we should remember the poor, the very thing which I also was eager to do . ” Galatians 2:10.
We are enjoying the twins, David and Elisa, very much. They are a blessing to our family. David Jr. and Douglas enjoyed all the attention from the many friendly students at the Back to the Bible Training College we visited.
‘World Evangelism Projects’
The pastor of our home church asked me to communicate with missionaries in India that are supported by our church and give feedback to our members. I am excited that our church does have a mission focus and hope that it will be expanded in the future as we are mobilized to prayer and action.
Please pray with us for:
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14
