Churches Under Fire in Nigeria PDF Print E-mail

christian-church-burned-3Boko Haram terrorists have destroyed over 180 churches in Borno state, in Northern Nigeria, in the last month. According to Human Rights Watch, the Boko Haram Jihadists have killed over 2,053 people since the beginning of 2014.

Callous Carnage
According to Rev. Gideon Obasogie, 185 churches have been torched and 190,000 people displaced by Boko Haram's Jihad, in Borno state, in the last month. He described the destruction of churches as "sad, heart-aching and potentially dangerous to the territorial integrity and common good of Nigeria… our church communities in Gulak, Shuwa, Michika and Bazza were ransacked by the callous attacks of the Boko Haram terrorists."

Muslim Mass Murder
President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria reports that the Muslim terrorists, Boko Haram, have murdered over 13,000 Nigerians in the last 5 years. The president's statement reads: "Nigeria knows too well the destructive effects of terrorist activities. Over the past 5 years, we have been, and are still, confronting threats posed by Boko Haram to peace and stability, predominantly in the North Eastern part of our country. The costs are high: over 13,000 people Gamboru-Ngala-town-Borno-state-2xekpjuuvwpfwi3vyb9gqyhave been killed, whole communities razed, and hundreds of persons kidnapped, the most prominent being the mindless kidnap of our innocent daughters from Chibok Secondary school in North East Nigeria."

Global Terrorism
President Jonathan pointed out that Boko Haram typifies the new face of global terrorism marked by executions, extreme brutality and impunity. Boko Haram in Northern Nigeria, Al Qaida in the Arab Maghreb, Al Shabaab in Somalia and ISIS, all share the same agenda in unleashing terror, destruction and instability around the world.

A Threat to Civilisation
"Only by united action and firm resolve can we check this raging threat to humanity, and also build the enduring structures that will resist their re-emergence."

Boko Haram leader Abu Bakar Shekau has declared the establishment of an Islamic Caliphate in North Eastern Nigeria: "We are in an Islamic Caliphate. We have nothing to do with Nigeria. We do not believe in this name."

"Their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes." Romans 3:15-18

More than 400 million Christians in 67 countries worldwide suffer under religious persecution. Yet little is heard about this and many churches give little, or no, attention to remembering the persecuted, praying for the persecuted and serving suffering Christians.

"Remember the prisoners as if chained with them – those who are mistreated – since you yourselves are in the Body also." Hebrews 13:3
